At the 100th LMHI Congress in Utrecht in May 2025, I presented a lecture entitled Homeopathy and the Holographic Model of Reality. The purpose of that lecture was not to offer another technical explanation of homeopathy, nor to defend it within the limits of a worldview that has never been able to understand it. The intention was broader: to place homeopathy inside an emerging image of reality in which consciousness, meaning, information, resonance and matter belong to one living continuum.
Why a new paradigm is needed
We are living in a time when many of the old models are losing their explanatory power. The materialistic worldview has brought enormous technological achievements, but it has also narrowed our understanding of life. It sees matter as primary, consciousness as a by-product of the brain, healing as a chemical or mechanical intervention, and homeopathy as implausible.
This worldview does not only create problems in medicine. It also shapes culture, politics, economics and our relationship with nature. We see growing polarisation, distrust of politics, ecological destruction, chronic diseases, isolation, depression and a deep loss of meaning. These problems cannot be solved only by more technology or more control. They arise from the way we understand reality, ourselves and our place in the world.
Albert Einstein once said, in the context of the atomic bomb, that a new type of thinking is essential if humanity is to survive and move toward higher levels. This insight is relevant today. We need a new image of the world, one that can include consciousness, meaning, interconnectedness, healing and responsibility.
Homeopathy belongs naturally to this emerging paradigm. It has always worked with patterns, resonance, totality and the hidden coherence of the organism. It does not fit well into a purely chemical model of medicine because its action is not primarily chemical. It belongs to a deeper level of reality.
From matter to meaning
The central shift of the new paradigm is simple, but radical. Consciousness is not a late product of matter. Consciousness is the ontological ground of reality. Matter is the final, visible expression of deeper layers.
In the old model, healing is mainly the correction of a physical mechanism. In the new model, healing is a restoration of coherence. It is a reconnection of the organism with meaning, with its own deeper pattern and with the whole.
This does not mean that the body is unimportant. The body is the visible field where deeper processes become manifest. Symptoms are not random mechanical failures. They are signs. They express a disturbance in the relation between the person, the organism, life experience and meaning.
Four layers of reality
The model I proposed in the lecture describes reality through four nested layers:
- Meaning or consciousness
This is the deepest source. It is timeless awareness, pure potential, the field from which meaning arises. - Information or pattern
This is the level of archetypes, symbolic structures, forms and organising principles. Meaning begins to take shape here. - Energy or vibration
This is the dynamic level of movement, resonance, interference and transformation. - Matter or manifestation
This is the visible world, the body, symptoms, objects, events and lived experience.
Reality unfolds from source to form. Healing moves in the opposite direction. It begins with symptoms, but it leads back toward meaning.
This is why homeopathy cannot be understood only through the last level, the level of matter. If we ask only what chemical substance remains in a high potency, we are asking the question from the wrong layer. The action of the remedy belongs to the informational, symbolic and resonant layers of reality.
The holographic principle
A hologram offers a powerful image for this model. In holography, a three-dimensional image is created through the interference of two coherent light beams. One beam carries information about the object. The other beam acts as a reference. Their interference is recorded on a plate. When the plate is later illuminated by coherent light, the image is reconstructed.
One of the most remarkable properties of a hologram is that each part contains the whole image. If the holographic plate is damaged, the entire image can still be reconstructed, although with less clarity. The whole is present in every part.
This principle resonates deeply with homeopathy. The local symptom expresses the whole person. A small sign can reveal a larger pattern. A dream, a modality, a gesture, a peculiar sensation or a repeated life theme can open the way to the totality of the case.
In the holographic model, reality itself may be understood as a vast interference pattern. What we perceive as solid and objective may be the reconstructed image of deeper informational and energetic processes. Our senses translate this field into the world we experience.
The physical world is therefore not separate from consciousness. It is the visible side of a deeper order.
Quintessence as the field of coherence
The name Quintessence is important. Traditionally, quintessence was understood as the fifth essence, aether, the subtle principle beyond the four visible elements. In this model, quintessence is not a fifth material element and not simply another layer. It is the relational field that connects all layers.
It is the field of resonance and coherence. It allows meaning to emerge between consciousness, information, energy and matter. It is the space where the whole is reflected in each part.
In ancient thought, aether connected heaven and earth. In modern cosmology, the word quintessence is sometimes used in relation to dark energy, a field permeating space and influencing cosmic evolution. In the holographic model, quintessence can be understood as the field in which consciousness meets form and the symbolic becomes real.
This is also the deeper purpose of the Quintessence Forum. It explores the living field behind appearances through homeopathy, consciousness, healing, science, philosophy, art and the search for a new paradigm.
Illness as a distortion of meaning
In this model, illness is not merely a physical defect. It is a disturbance of coherence. It is a distortion in how the organism holds meaning.
A person may become stuck in a certain way of feeling, reacting or interpreting life. Trauma, loss, inherited patterns, chronic stress or deep emotional conflicts can shape the inner field. The organism then expresses this disturbance through symptoms.
The symptom is not meaningless. It is a sign. It is the visible expression of a deeper pattern.
In holography, when the interference pattern is disturbed, the reconstructed image becomes blurred or distorted. In human life, when the inner pattern loses coherence, symptoms arise. They may appear in the body, in emotions, in behaviour, in dreams, in relationships or in the person’s sense of identity.
Healing therefore cannot mean only suppressing symptoms. True healing means restoring coherence between what we experience and what we deeply are.
The homeopathic remedy as a symbolic pattern
A homeopathic remedy can be understood as an informational and symbolic pattern. It does not act like a chemical substance in the ordinary pharmacological sense. It acts through resonance.
The remedy carries a pattern. The patient carries a pattern. When the two correspond, something becomes visible. The remedy functions as a mirror. It reflects a hidden or distorted part of the patient’s inner world.
This is why the correct remedy has to be similar. Without similarity there is no resonance. Without resonance there is no meaningful response.
The remedy does not impose healing from outside. It does not force the organism into a new state. It illuminates the existing disturbance. It brings the hidden pattern into relation with consciousness. In that encounter, the organism may reorganise itself.
In this sense, the remedy is closer to a symbol than to a drug. A symbol does not work by force. It works by awakening meaning.
Consciousness, symbol and healing
Healing begins when consciousness engages with the symbol. This engagement may be conscious or unconscious. The patient does not need to intellectually understand the remedy. The organism can respond at a deeper level.
There is a close relationship here between homeopathy and psychotherapy. In psychotherapy, healing often begins when previously unconscious material becomes visible and can be integrated. In homeopathy, the remedy may act as a symbolic mirror that resonates with the hidden pattern of the case.
The remedy invites the organism to recognise itself. This recognition may lead to emotional release, changes in dreams, shifts in energy, changes in physical symptoms, or a new relationship to life.
The process is not linear. It is not simply cause and effect in the mechanical sense. It is more like the reconstruction of a holographic image. A new order appears when the right light meets the right pattern.
Homeopathy and semiology
This model also brings homeopathy close to semiology, the study of signs and meaning.
A symptom is a sign. A remedy is also a sign. A dream, a gesture, a modality, a sensation, a repeated phrase, a life story, all of these are signs. They point beyond themselves.
At the deepest level there is the field of meaning. Then meaning takes archetypal form. Then it becomes carried by energetic and symbolic expressions. Finally, it appears as a concrete symptom or event.
In homeopathy, the practitioner reads these signs. The case is not just a collection of complaints. It is a symbolic text. The remedy is chosen because it resonates with the underlying meaning of that text.
This does not reduce homeopathy to psychology. The body, the emotions and the mind are expressions of one pattern. Physical symptoms are just as important as mental or emotional symptoms. The organism speaks through all its levels.
Why the old language is no longer enough
Homeopathy has traditionally used the concept of the vital force. This concept was profound in its time and still has value. But for many contemporary people, it has become vague or difficult to connect with modern thought.
The language of information, resonance, coherence, symbol and meaning may help homeopathy enter a broader cultural and scientific dialogue. It allows us to speak with philosophy, depth psychology, systems theory, consciousness studies and emerging models of physics.
This language does not betray homeopathy. It makes explicit what homeopathy has always known in practice: that the organism is a meaningful whole, that symptoms belong to patterns, that healing involves the whole person, and that the remedy works through similarity and resonance.
A broader cultural meaning
The new paradigm is not only about medicine. It also has ethical and ecological consequences.
If reality is interconnected, if each part reflects the whole, then separation is only partial. The suffering of the individual, the suffering of society and the suffering of the Earth are related. A worldview based on isolation, competition and exploitation cannot heal the crises it has helped create.
A holographic worldview leads naturally to responsibility. It suggests that each being participates in the whole. Human life is not separate from nature. Consciousness is not locked inside the skull. Meaning does not belong only to private psychology. We live inside a field of relationships.
Homeopathy, understood in this way, becomes more than a therapeutic method. It becomes a practical expression of a different worldview. It teaches us to listen to the whole, to respect small signs, to seek coherence, and to understand that healing begins where meaning has been lost.
Toward a new understanding of healing
The holographic model does not claim to be the final explanation of homeopathy. It is a bridge. It offers a way of thinking that can connect ancient insight, modern science, symbolic understanding and clinical experience.
It helps us see the remedy as a pattern. It helps us see the symptom as a sign. It helps us see illness as a disturbance of coherence. It helps us see healing as the restoration of meaning.
In such a model, homeopathy no longer appears as an anomaly. It becomes one of the natural healing arts of a universe that is informational, symbolic, resonant and alive.
The deeper task is to change the way we see reality. When consciousness is primary, when matter is understood as manifestation, when the whole is present in every part, then homeopathy becomes understandable. It belongs to a world in which meaning is not an illusion, but the very fabric of existence.
This is the vision behind the Quintessence Forum. A space for a new paradigm in which healing, consciousness, science, philosophy and human responsibility can meet again.
